i think horrizontal spinners are becoming more popular because of anticyclone.

nice team shakey, sure you'll do well! where did you get that fan from and what motor/ESC do you use to make it spin?

The Fan is from hobbykings EDF section with a generic Turnigy 20A ESC. This fan is definitely overkill for an ant and a power draw to match :P But it is fun!

I built a horizontal as I like undercutters :D And it was easier to get into 125g as a vertical needs armour. Horizontals present a much bigger disc area so can get away with a lot less armour. Plus there are loads of verticals!

And finally don't mind me, just messing about. ¬.¬ Going to be building an ant from these tests to fill my final team slot, 2 motors and more wheels than that!

Looks like you are getting some good results with your 3D printer.

3d printed parts looks great! out of interest where did you get your 3d printer from? Did you have to assemble it yourself?

I'm really impressed with the printer, it's producing very nicely detailed parts with great accuracy. No heated plate so I get some warping if I'm not careful in the design and as with all hobby printers there is some occasional quirks, but the advantage is it's a reprap i3 a lovely open source design. I can pre-emptively print spare parts and there are hundreds of options to improve it. A heated bed can be added for £15 and with a new £40 hotend I could print in polycarbonate, Nylon and other strange filaments. I also have very fine control over the temperature, speed, layer height and how the CAD is sliced (I'm using Slic3r and Pronterface right now for control). Plus with an £8" cubed build area ants are no problem! :D

It's a Prusa i3 Hephestos, from http://www.3distributed.com/

It was self assembly and the instructions were in spanish :S But the design is one that was made to be simple to put together so I just followed the pictures and measurements easily. Had it built in a day and calibration was easy, the firmware was already loaded into the RAMPS board so I just had to bed level, fine tune the endstops and tension the belts.

And considering one roll of filament from my printer would cost around 1000 euros from shapeways... There's some saving in there :P

*cue 6wd everything*

On that note, will it be light enough for the fan bot?

I can probably get each drive pod down to 20g ish so plenty light enough. But this isn't for the fanbot. This is going in the experimenting bot with a 4 bar flipper :D
