Polycarbonate

Post by malivoirec »

I know this might seem a bit pointless to start a whole new topic for this but since technobots have appeared to stop selling it any more, does anyone knows an online store in the UK that sells 1mm Makrolon branded polycarbonate in small (A4 sheet size) sheets? I tried looking for stores with this criteria on google but failed miserably.

I have to say at 1mm I've found clear plasticard (clear might be called something else) to be stronger and less prone to split when bent. Get it from a model shop for about ?1 for an A4 sheet.

I found a site that sells sheets of 0.75 mm. polycarbonate. Is that still rigid enough to keep the shape I bend it into?
Thanks!

I suppose 0.75mm polycarbonate will be 0.75x as stiff as 1mm polycarbonate...

Seriously, it should be perfectly usable for antweights.

I wonder what you mean exactly by "rigid enough to keep the shape I bend it into" ?

Polycarbonate is flexible - if you bend it into a curve it straightens out again. A fold or sharp bend will stay set, and you do not need to heat it to form it this way. However, you cannot cold-form large curves; you need to use heat to do that and it's not very easy.

You can create a "temporary" curve by fixing the ends of a strip and letting it form a natural curve - like the body of Pants. When you unscrew the body from the chassis the body reverts to its natural flat shape.
