New Nanoweight Arena

Post by Shakey »

I'm going to be building a new fully enclosed Nanoweight arena for the weight class. By keeping it its own fully enclosed arena it can allow us to run both nanos and fleas at the same time (EO permitting) to help have more time for the main event or simply side events.

I'm aiming to keep it balanced to allow fair melees as well as 1vs1's but also to help provide ample opportunity for nanos to take advantage of arena features. The outer design will be much like Petes ant arena with 3m polycarb kick plates and a 1.5mm bent cover, should be more than enough to contain nanos but help keep it light and not too expensive. I might also experiment with features like built in clock and lights. I'd like to paint the arena but grip always concerns me, I'm not fully sure on what type of paint works well for fighting robot arenas without turning it into an ice rink. Also if anyone has the measurements of the current one that'd be great as that's a decent size for fighting.

However I'd like your ideas on what you'd like to see in the arena. Whether it simply be how high you want the walls to whether you'd like to see hazards or odd shapes involved then let me know!

Go full battlebots with hammers XD one thing that I thought was painful but interesting was the arena spinners shown here, more, might be interesting to have some form of nano flinger:

I would love to see a square arena with a circle pit in the middle with ramps around it and ramps facing out wards at the arena walls where people can get pushed off. Also some elevated platforms as well.

I do think a sorta central put that isn't a side ditch would be sorta cool, maybe even with a manual pit release that we could put down once a nano drives into a fake pad

I think a manual pit release or any active hazards is probably a little much XD I would like to see a central pit though, and starting squares - pretty please not red and blue!

The main trouble with an open pit in the middle is that many Nano's tend to a bit fast and uncontrollable so are likely to pit themselves. (especially if I am driving them)
Having said that I am at present building a new ten to the minus nine with an extra gear ratio like one billionth to try to make it more driveable.

My nanoweight arena (the one currently used) is 70cm by 60 cm. It has one inch walls and four drop off gaps. I think it would be great to see a more professionally built one as mine is just glued together, the walls are a bit uneven and after several events the floor is pretty scuffed.

Many antweights

Super antweights: territorial.

Fleaweights: fleadom fighter, gaztons.

Featherweights: hectic (under construction)
