I've been planning to make a couple of Beetles for a while now. Going to start of with one and see how it goes from there. I can no longer make the event in Deeside but I'm going to go ahead and build one for the next event whenever that may be.
I have a couple of designs in mind, which one I go for will decide on how much the waterjet cutting is going to cost which I should find out fairly soon. Either way it should be something fun to play with

I can't make Deeside as I will be helping Orla move her stuff back into her uni accommodation that weekend. A shame I have to miss the event but that's the way it is.
I would assume your beetle would be spinny, but I may be mistaken.

I have now got round to sorting out the waterjet cutting for my beetle and I can't wait to get my hands on the pieces. It will be a spinner but not the usual type for me- going to go horizontal for a change
I have also ordered the remaining parts from Botbitz and Hobbyking so there should be some progress soon
A removable link is the easiest thing to make; where your battery goes to the robots controllers, just make a cut in the positive wire and solder the ends to a connector (use one suitable for the power). Then, with the mating half of the connector, solder a loop of wire going from one side of the connector to the other. When it's plugged in, the wire bridges the gap in the positive wires and turns the robot on. Easy.
Now that most of it has been sorted I can now reveal what I'm making
Going for a single tooth horizontal spinner. Chassis is being made entirely out of waterjet cut 6082 T6 Aluminium and there will be interchangeable 6mm and 10mm Hardox discs for it.
Ratio will be 1:1 off of a Turnigy 28mm outrunner and belt drive running at 3s so top speed should be in the region of 9 - 10,000rpm.
