Just looked on RS and they have the senders

But only have the SFH3500 receivers which do not have the built in daylight filter.

Is a daylight filter completely necessary? If so, how would i apply one?

Difficult to say I had the option and never tried the non filtered one.
The output of the two receivers are AC coupled (C21 & C22) so any constant light tends to be filtered out but it would still be possible with too much ambient light to saturate the receivers and stop them working. I found putting them in a tube cut down the amount of ambient light getting in anyway.

That was what i was thinking. Simple black heatshrink would work probably.
