Wii or PS3, or Xbox 360?

Wanna talk about something other than robots? Really?? Can't understand it myself, but if you really want to, do it here....normal rules apply though!!

PS3 is over-hyped, too expensive and doesn't actually do anything new - yes its high def (so what, get a decent frame rate and it makes no difference! and its still lower res than PCs were running 4 years ago), the 'innovations' they've pinched from MS and Nintendo and Blu-Ray is not looking like a great idea - too difficult to manufacture. Added to that Sony's delibrate 'low stock' when it goes on sale...seesh!

With consoles, the only thing that matters is the gameplay - my N64 is still better than almost anything on the original XBox (Halo excepted). Nintendo and 'friends' keep delivering the goods time and time again....but I'll wait for a Wii  as the price will come down when the PS3 come out....BTW the DS is great fun...got one for my daughter for Xmas...

The only real advantage with owning a console over a PC as far as me and my friends have found out is that with a console it is far easier to have LAN parties. 4 people on 1 Xbox is a lot easier than having 3 people having to haul their entire PC rig round your house :P Unfortunately for us, the games that we mostly play against each other (Quake 3, Age of Empires, Jedi Knight 2, Robot Arena 2 etc) are mostly only available on PC so we all have laptops now :)

I'm not much for consoles aswell, but I'm more intrested in the technical data.
The only cool thing with PS3 is that, a computer got 1 core (The new Dual core which they are currently developing got two). PS3 got 8 of those! :)

But I think it will be difficult to surpass Wii, 360 and PS3, as it took over 6 years to create PS3 from PS2. I can only imagen how long time it will take until we see PS4 (or if they change their mind and re-name it)

Some computers now have 8 cores. 2 quad core processors running together. I think Dell has one, and Apple is making one though I am not sure... They are designed as servers rather than home PCs though :P

You can't even take that as true. But with quad cores, graphics SLi-ing, dolby 5.1 processors, physics accelerators...a PC can easily have between 8 and 10 processors at home. The ones in consoles are just bit part processors (like the audio chipset on a sound card) designed for specific jobs.

I thought that the ps3 was running 3 dual core processors, one for main processing, one for ploygons and one for physics. Would really like a quad core processor in my PC. Guess i will be waiting....

Mike has a good point, Lan games are more fun with consoles, although 4 people playing BF2 in one room as one squad beats any game i have played on a console.

Multiplayer gaming? You haven't lived until you've played four player Goldeneye on the N64 using slaps as the weapon of choice....have you ever tried slapping someone to death!!!! Seeesh!

BTW, just bought a Sega Saturn on ebay...now that's what I call a console...Daytona, Virtua Fighter....*dribble*

To quote Sony's advert at the time (1995):

"If you still want a Saturn, your head is in Uranus."

The Saturn was a good console. Not as good as the N64 though.

These youngsters today are all about graphics and HDTV's. They know nothing of playability. Manic Miner, there was a game :)

Don't start me on nostalgia, I'm old enough to remember some really wierd stuff!

For instance, the Commodore Pet had Space Invaders programmed into its boot ROM as an alternative to the normal (CPM?) operating system. In 1982 we thought that was really cool!

Of course this was a long time before MS-DOS and the Intel x86 architecture took over the world...
