Hydraulics

Post by american roboteer »

I wondered if hydraulics even as unfeasible as they sound are against the rules. They are technicly a fluid based weapon (the fundamentals being liquid can not be compressed). If hydraulics are not illegal would there be some sort of limitation on them like max pressure. I personally dont see the need for any rules other than that It has to be can be remote controlled, is able to be flipped upside down and nothing leak out, and of course no flammable liquids. such as http://www.freewebs.com/americanrobots/builddiary.htm

Well if you want to built antweights with hydraulics, good luck. :)

As for using Hydraulics in heavier weigh classes, they are allowed. Within the FRA rules there is a special section regarding the use of Hydraulics.

There is a maximum pressure (4000 PSI or 275 bar) and all parts must be pressuretested accordingly. There should be a non leak system in place, and a measuring point inside the robot so the event organiser/tech checker can verify you dont use a too high pressure. The use of accumulators is also not allowed.

See http://www.fightingrobots.co.uk/rules.htm for all details.

I wonder how much power he could generate with this setup. imagine a pump that small and a sanyo look-a-like geard down even further.

Interesting.

Try http://web.archive.org/web/200212080732 ... feeble.htm for the details. It hasn't archived the pictures unfortunately. Sure I must have one somewhere. It actually worked ok except that Tomo had loads of trouble stopping it leaking fluid everywhere!
