What have you got so far?

Before you criticize another person, first walk a mile in their shoes. Then, when you critisize them, you'll be a mile away and have their shoes.

Are you using servos for a drive? If so, to be honest from what I have seen most people use motors now, and those who don't turn to them very quickly... E.G. Haz and Jonny I believe were both servo driven robots at RFRC 3 and now they are both driven by mini geared motors.

Yes you do need a speed controller if you use geared motors. These cost in the vicinity of ?30-?50.
