Adam, unfortunately you're trying to ask two questions in the same poll. Yes, I think it's a good idea. No, I probably wouldn't buy one as we have several robots, two transmitters and several drivers at home so we can practice against each other. Luxury indeed! (But we're still not world champs...)
As for a weapon, I suspect you will have enough to do making an autonomous robot, let alone an autonomous weapon system. Some people tried automatic weapons on RW and they were generally useless as it's actually very difficult to do.
For ideas and inspiration, look up "autonomous minisumo robots" these are 500g robots that must fit in a 4" square floorplan (no height limit).

Good luck!

right, this question is really aimed at people such as Mr. Waller, and other disc owners:

Would you use a disc against a trainer bot if you were using one? (answers by PM or in topic please)

Probably not, the energy involved in the modern spinner means that they can also get damaged so I dont tend to use them unless it's at an event. Even doing demo's against coke cans has proved expensive in the past.

I'm back again... For part of the project, I need to have a questionaire, and here it is... I would be very, very grateful if you could please give me 5 or so minutes of your time and fill it out, even if you wouldn't buy one anyway. Could you post the answers you choose on here, and add any comments at the bottom of your post. Then I can just print this thread off, and put it in my folder work (so please try to stay On Topic). I'll bring the thing to my next AWS for you all to see. Thanks in advance, Adam.

PS, don't worry about how i'm gonna build it-that's my problem, and I've got to cover all possiblities in the design work.
