Fingertech Viper

Post by Tufty »

Out of interest, and the potential to be opening a business in which some robot combat events may be taking place in future, I was looking at a few off-the-shelf options, including this: https://www.robotshop.com/uk/fingertech ... it-v2.html

I was wondering, since I have only a 6-channel Rx at the moment, how important the extra 2 channels are for this? I'd have to get new radio gear if necessary, which isn't prohibitive but obviously does need factoring into the cost.

No you don't need 8 channels for this or indeed probably any combat robot.

I may be wrong, but isn't the Viper a US-Antweight (1 lbs / 450g) robot kit? It's not going to make weight for a 150g tournament certainly.
Robots: Betsie - RaspberryPi controlled flipper bot with gyro stablisation - too clever for her own good?
Stacie - tidy flipper; 4wd driven by hair bands

Thanks

It is, I was initially thinking purely for the sake of private events, but in theory it has plenty of weight available for armour and weapons as a beetle should adaptation not put too great a strain on it.

The Viper only needs 2 channels in it's base state like that, then add 1 channel for every extra 'thing' you need.

Though as Mark pointed out it doesn't fit into any class. I'll add that really they are a bit too far under to bring up to beetleweights and their drive and robustness starts to suffer there.

Not to plug too hard but I do sell ant kits that may work for you: https://nutsandbots.co.uk/product-category/robots/

Your kits are definitely on my radar, I'd almost certainly look at buying at least a couple of each in time. You're probably right about the beetle plans, it was a semi idle thought while looking what was available for less (seriously) competitive purposes.
