Thinking about a one off competition.
My only competition was about 7 years ago with a robot called Antebellum.
I'm thinking about building a new robot (a Firestorm rip off) with some of the parts I've still got knocking around.
The only thing I'm lacking is a flipper motor.
What metal gear servos are people using these days?
I've probably got 30g to play with and I'd be running it on 7.4V courtesy of a speed controller I bought from Peter W.
Also, if you're a regular and usually take a soldering iron and some solder to competitions, I'd love to hear from you

Nevermind, I just found a Hitec HS 82 MG in the shed
Don't know why I rejected it all those years ago. Anyone else forget parts around the house?
Might make this into a build diary.

The 3D printed chassis arrived today and I'm very happy with it.
I think the robot is faithful to the original design, with some notable differences.
I've got all the components, should just be a case of getting to work at the weekend.

Re: Thinking about a one off competition.
firstly, its amazing to see how far ant components have come in just 7 years.
it looks like i could fit my esc/rx/lipo into a package about the size of just your lipo.
secondly, as for servo's, a fairly popular one lately is the kingmax km1203md.
boasts (iirc) about 9kg/cm at about .08 but cost a decent bit. as long as it survives well its so far worth every penny.
for cheap, powerful and robust, i use the towerpro mg92b. around £7 each has 3.5kg/cm at .10 but survives everything.
lastly, and i think most importantly...
is that spaghetti??

Re: Thinking about a one off competition.
That's a mighty fine looking speed controller you have there.
Re: Thinking about a one off competition.
I'm using it as a temporary hinge, might just leave it now
Thanks for the servo recommendations, turns out my current one is a little too big so that'll come in handy.

Maybe it's a little bit out of date now, but it's been the longest lasting ESC I've ever owned.peterwaller wrote: ↑Thu Oct 29, 2020 8:24 am That's a mighty fine looking speed controller you have there.

Here it is with wheels and metal hinge rod fitted
Now waiting on one of those towerpro servos...

Now with Firestorm style metal strip.
I've come up with the name.. "Firestorminateacup"

Having realised that most of the people reading this thread are probably thinking something along the lines of "mmm, can't wait to lay into that with my 15,000 rpm spinner", I thought I'd better add some extra "armour" to the corners.
