Ellis's (Team BANANAPHONE/A12) build log!

Post by retropunk »

hey!
Thought I'd finally get around to making a build diary after AWS59 - great event, did awful but very happy with myself for making a robot that did something vaguely like working, although mostly thanks a lot to Dave Weston for re-doing my bad soldering and lending me a nano-two, so here I am. After AWS59 I've been redesigning Solderburn to fit the components inside better and be more drive-able, and y'know, function on the day of the event.

Soldeburn V2's new chassis vs the old Solderburn - the parts will fit a lot better! (SLS Nylon 12)

I'm hoping to enter & compete in AWS60, but with mocks before it might be a tight one :)

Ah mocks, the bane of my teenage years. Good luck with them!

Am I right in thinking v2's chassis is bigger? Is it much heavier? Not sure I'd want MicroNewton fighting it anytime soon! Maybe one of my newer flippers which have much thicker fronts...

Also, kudos to you for making a spinner as your first bot. I'm four in and yet to start even CADing a spinner.

Thanks!
Yes, v2’s chassis is a lot bigger ( had a problem with the chassis having to bulge because the parts didn’t fit ) but not much heavier, pros of using a pretty light filament.

It’s not technically my first bot but it’s my first solo bot, as in one that wasn’t done with my uncle who has lots of engineering experience. Solderburn started out as being based on Neon (FW) and Rev 2 from Bugglebots, but since it’s bigger now and fitting all of the parts, the design changed shape a lot!

What weapon motor/ESC combination are you using out of interest?

So glad I asked, the ESC I'd been looking at was 30A and weighed 24g...! Cheers!

Drilled both new bodies yesterday evening because some of the drill holes hadn’t printed properly and screwed them both on (black self-tapping M2s from Amazon), and mounted the drive motors.

While reusing the mounts from the original Solderburn, found one of the motors that had been trashed in the whiteboard rumbles at AWS59 and I now see why it wasn’t working.

That motor doesn't look healthy!

Looking forward to seeing Solderburn V2 in action!
