Re: Another New Antweight..
Yeah, probably a fairly good rule of thumb
I feel I should build a FBS and and just call it Byte :L

Re: Another New Antweight..
that robot does look awesome though Rory. should be quite competitive in the new arena design. hope i don't have to fight it.

Re: Another New Antweight..
Even with the new arena design, this thing throws itself around waay too much to be properly competitive :L

Re: Another New Antweight..
Well, I may have been given a 3D printer for my 21st...
(The new Turnigy Fabrikator; very nice bit of kit)
Now, being one of the advocates of hand building robots and generally considering 3D printing as a little bit cheating, this creates a bit of a dilemma; I can't argue that a 3D printer isn't an incredibly useful tool for building robots, however it's rather against my style to 3D print robots. As such I'm not sure to what extent I'll end up using 3D printing in my robots; I don't intend to 3D print whole robots, as I still prefer the generally greater strength to weight ratio of my folded polycarb methods. However it'll likely make an appearance in making things like blade mounts and fiddly details (likely including some Nanos) that are hard to hand build. I do this to an extent anyway already, but it just means I'll be able to print stuff myself instead of pestering Alex. Hopefully it'll mean I can make more intricate and crazy things instead of just letting me be lazy.. Time will tell!

I sense a disturbance in the Force, as if a million unbuilt rustic robots cried out but were suddenly silenced...

Re: Another New Antweight..
Well I tried to make a sensible robot after my last few mad machines... I even got as far as building a chassis:
However I came up with a cool idea for a folding chassis and couldn't pass up the opportunity for yet another oddity...
As such, 'Slice To Meet You' was born:
Here's a video of driving it around: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YRPkz_g ... e=youtu.be
The blade is lifted straight from the 'sensible' chassis and hasn't been balanced.. Mainly because it is now woefully inadequate for a chassis of this size. Given that the robot weighs 100g without a blade, I'm planning on making a blade that's a little more to scale :L Does rather hinge on getting hold of some 2mm Ti, so there's a good chance I end up just rebalancing the one I have fitted for the AWS...

As the wheels are on a moving joint it looks like if someone tried to flip the wheel the wheel would raise then drop back down, making it very hard to beat if you are a flipper

Has a 3d printer now yay
-£4.82+VAT (intact)
-cool modulated printed thingy
-not yet built nasty mean spinnt thingy
I'm gonna build something huge and stupid, try and stop me
