That's always my philosophy the weapon is the best armour as long as you can keep it between you and the opposition.

Not a new Ant but a new version of Combatant. At the RFRC combatant managed to rip itself in half and to compound the damage I left the battery connected for a couple of days so that doesn't work either now. Initially I glued it all back together again but the more I thought about it probably breaking again and how due to instability in the turns with the spinner going this version has never been that competative I decided to redesign it. I have reuced the wheel diameter to lower the C of G and increased the tyre width to help with the grip. I have shortened the distance between the spinner and wheel centres to make turning easier and put more weight on the wheels. I have replaced the two scoop tines at the front which were only 25mm apart with a very thin and flexible titanium scoop 75mm wide to give more stability I hope. The controller is an option B61 board and the only armour are 3 long M3 screws that protect the electronics from the front.
Here is the result.

...I 'm not sure what to say to that. Its really peculier looking :P

I think that scoop looks kinda odd TBH, and those electronics on top are asking for an axe :)

I may be proven drastically wrong when BH, Stewie or F.I.N are in bits in the arena, but it looks really weird. I'm sure the robot works fine, it just looks so....Not Combatant :P When you compare the original to this one, it just shows you how far technology has changed :)

Actually Dave I take that as a complement I hate it when my new Robot designs come out looking like a copy of an existing robot. I must admit I was just concentrating on changeing the things I thought were causing the problems with the old version without much thought for the final look. I have just done some weapons testing and already had to make two mods. First the Robot tends to lift the front on fast forward and even flips on its back if you stop the spinner rapidly so it now has a small rear skid. Second I found that if it ends up in the ditch the scoop can bend up enough to try and stop the spinner. To counter this I have enlarged the slot in the scoop, even more than the spinner had, to try and avoid that although the only way to be certain is to seperate the two sides completely.

Combatant looks great, I don't really want to fight it though

I have also done a bit of work to Ant Awe 6 as a couple of flaws were exposed when I got some practice in at the tag team event a couple of weeks ago.

The main change has been the flipper arm, which wouldn't retract properly and I have also moved the servo down a bit so that it doesn't get in the way of the flipper.

I have finally got round to painting it, here is the result- http://s881.photobucket.com/albums/ac13/team-shock/

this is with the aluminium shell fitted, I am in the process of making a 2mm HDPE version of it so that it will be a little bit more resistant to spinners. This version of the shell will be for non spinner fights and demos at other events.

Those of you who have seen Ant Awe 5 recently will have noticed that it has been looking a bit worn out and tired. So I have built a new version of it. This has been built in the same way as Ant Awe 6 with an entirely new chassis and interchangeable shell.

Anyway here are the pictures (some with Ant Awe 6), it still needs another coat of paint and the rest of the stickers added but it is pretty much there.

It will be going to Portsmouth this weekend for its first fights.
