Just got some larger (40 mm) tube in from ebay today to suit the new Defiant chassis.
Here the scoops are just tacked on with tape but it all seems to fit.
I am going to have to remove the top of the scoops (which hangs down at the back) to avoid the tracks being lifted of the ground when someone gets under the front.
Here is the final scoop with hooks to prevent the opposition from driving over.
Just got some smaller LiPo batteries so I need to build a new controller / receiver and fit it all in.
Whilst that looks very cool pete, I don't know if thats going to hinder or help you. I lost a match to Ant Clank because I came head to head and I was levered up by my opponent. I can see a flipper edge lodging in the horns and lifting like 80% of your track surface off the ground. If they've got good grip/rear wheel drive, you've had it.
Yes I know what you mean I am not 100% convinced myself.
I started just moulding some washers that fitted the curve so the screw heads lay flat and got a bit carried away.
Probably what I really need is to either countersink or counterbore the scoop so the screw heads are flush.
Finally finished the new Defiant and I decided to take Daves advice and removed the hooks although I haven't thrown them away so I might try them sometime.
I now have countersunk screws which are threaded into aluminium blocks inside the chassis to help spread the load.
Having done so badly at the last AWS and sustained a lot of damage I am attempting to rebuild the team in some cases going for more simple designs.
Have done defianty I have now been consentrating on a flipper design based on my run all day flippers and it is just about there.
Here it is lifting Defiant. http://youtu.be/gPerwi2MSxA
Here self righting. http://youtu.be/tbzVcnEYBBU
Still making progress on my team rebuild I have just finished Fleabite but not sure I will manage the lot before the AWS.
It is really only a new chassis with all the old parts stuffed inside.
Here is the progress so far.
Just finished Deflea seen below with its big brother defiant.
Doesn't look like I shall have time to redesign the spinners for the AWS so probably just a carful check over especially variant that failed to run at the last event.
