Re: Rule Debates

All you need to do is pit the other half of the cluster, and then the drone has to come to you, which should be an easy fight. You've hit the nail on the head there George. That's precisely it. And if you've pitted the other half of the cluster, all of the points in the judges' books would be in yo...

Re: Rule Debates

There is always the issue with an ineffective botlet winning a fight without doing anything. Take Lemmings as an example; sometimes when Lemmings won it was a fair win, others it was a driving error or technical malfunction by the opponent on the very last botlet which meant that the opponent was co...

Re: Revision of Nanoweight Cube Size

Builder's discretion doesn't always work. If someone has to withdraw a cluster from the main event because one of its parts has been written off somehow it can cause issues. That's true. I guess the only way to do this is for the event organiser to decide where priorities lie. If there is a flea/na...

Re: Rule Debates

"All subsequent parts of a clusterbot must be eliminated for that robot to be considered out, unless one of the components is a drone in which case the drone will only count as part of a cluster if it has made contact with the opponent before either robot is pushed off" This would not be ...

Re: Revision of Nanoweight Cube Size

The only other thing I'd like to flag up is nanos/fleas that take part in the AWS as part of clusters as well as in their own tournament. That's a problem, whether the tournament is held before, after, or alongside the AWS. If you rely on your nano for your AWS cluster and it is damaged in the nano...

Re: Rule Debates

My thoughts on drones (having introduced the first into competition): 1) They are not possible to control easily in a combat scenario. Trying to fly straight upwards is near impossible, touch a wall and the drone is flipped over onto its back immobile or worse, no attack power etc. Entering a drone ...

Re: Revision of Nanoweight Cube Size

One of the main factors I see for not building a nano is the ratio of effort vs number of fights. It is a lot of effort to build a nano for 1 fight tagged on the end of an AWS. If there was a separate nano arena and a NWS was run as double elimination or a league system in parallel with the AWS the...

Re: Rule Debates

You're right, there are some restrictions for Antweight arenas. That's good to see. However, nothing of the sort for Fleaweights and Nanoweights so something to consider for future attempts. Its why I get nervous when I read people are planning to build one without getting their plans OKed first. I ...

Re: Revision of Nanoweight Cube Size

Yeah, I also don't really agree that rule changes are automatically bad for anyone who built to previous rulesets. Especially when it's only a tweak. Agreed to a certain extent. To award the same trophy for an altogether different competition seems slightly odd to me though. Frankly, getting a comp...
