Re: Antweight World Series 58 - 29th June 2019

Absolutely gutted about this but we're going to have to drop out (both 'Team Antiquarian' and 'Anthony's Ant Army'). Anthony took a tumble playing tag at school this morning and damaged his shoulder. X-ray has confirmed nothing broken but it's a nasty sprain - he's now in a sling, can't physically o...

All ready for AWS58

Well, I scarcely dare say it but... I think we might actually be ready! Wasted a lot of time last week trying to implement a last-minute crazy idea for a flail-bot (going to leave that particular challenge until I've got a 3-d printer!) but with deadlines looming, I decided to spend this final weeke...

Re: What to bring to AWS (advise for first timers please)

Great - so I'll leave the bandsaw and large drill-press at home but otherwise... bring everything that will fit in a suitcase! And spare wheels! Greatly relieved to receive an email from Nuts N Bolts on Saturday to say my order of wheels was ready for posting - otherwise I'd have been swapping...

What to bring to AWS (advise for first timers please)

This time next Friday the boy and I'll be hopping on a train to Rugby ready for our first ever AWS event (we're overnighting at the Dun Cow) and it occurs to me that I don't have a clue what to bring. I'm probably not the only one in this situation so I was hoping some of the old hands might share t...

Re: Team Antiquarian new build diary

Hmm...
Some interesting thoughts there. Might not give up on the silicone tubing tyres just yet then, least not until I've done some more tests (narrower tyres and/or cut-in treads).
Thanks guys.

Re: Esc and Receiver

Best thing I've found for bending Polycarb is a cheap sheet-metal clamp, like welders use. These are the ones I got; https://www.amazon.co.uk/Silverline-633638-Sheet-Metal-Clamps/dp/B000LFV9UO/ With those, I can bend 1mm pc with a little effort by pressing against the workbench - and 1.5mm with a bi...

Introducing PolycarbonAnt

With AWS 58 approaching fast, I thought it was about time I made a couple of antweights for my own team, rather than just for my son. So here's my first entrant - PolycarbonAnt - a rough and ready, hard-wearing 4wd invertible pushbot, hand-bodged out of (predictably) polycarbonate. Emphasis very muc...

Re: Team Antiquarian new build diary

Well that was a bad idea! The slick silicone-hose wheels looked great - and worked great for the first few minutes. But once they picked up even a hint of dust, all traction disappeared. In a fighting arena, that design will be utterly useless - so reinventing the wheel is now on hold until the day ...

Re: Team Pompidou First Antweight Build/Questions

Is this a bit clearer?

The four wires leading to the Rx are
Brown (Ch1 - Gnd)
Red (Ch1 - Vcc)
Orange (Ch1 - Signal)
Orange (Ch2 - Signal)

Don't worry - we've all been there!

and another thing...

OK, promise this will be my last update on this thread (if anyone's still reading) Treated myself to an el-cheapo servo tester (HJ Digital Servo Tester - 7 quid from Amazon) to see if I could get a bit clearer about the discrepancies I was observing between these different servo boards. Results were...
