Re: Kosmos Build Diary

i'd prefer if you avoid using the name starbug as i have plans for a new nano that may use the name. the name actually came from the first nano being red dwarf for obvious reasons (it was red and slow and seemed size appropriate) so its twin nano was named star bug. sorry to be a bit of a kill joy b...

Re: Buying Antweights

You really don't need a 3d printer to get into antwights. If you really want to use 3d printing, companies like shapeways exist. You don't need a degree in engineering or any prior knowledge of robots. i built my first antweight when i was only 11 years old. The easiest way to build antwights at the...

Re: Using spare chassis

i believe you are referring to some of my robots we just used hot melt glue to stick the necessary bits back together. it would also take about an hour to rebuild the entire robot into a different chassis even if i did print spare chassis. however i do sometimes have spare parts like motor mounts, w...

Re: Gyro-Walker weight limits/bonuses?

My interpretation of the rules would say that a gyrobot would count as a "walker" and get the full 150% weight allowance of 225g as its contact point does not rotate more than 180 degrees. But the community overall may have a differing opinion. until we see a rise in competitive gyrobots a...

Re: The smart ant's and flea's

The autonomous robot is still in progress, still designing the robot but will order the bits required soon. but i've mostly been working on a antweight spinner, heading towards a design similar to a robot i think was called bulkhead? basically a 3d printed metal horizontal bar. thanks to our new walk...

Re: AWS 53?

one of the things that some people organizing events have done is to ask for donations to help cover the cost of the venue. the idea of a mandatory entry free of a couple of quid per robot has also been thought about. so if the cost of the venue is an issue and getting a sponser to cover the cost is...

Re: The smart ant's and flea's

Having finished exams i've finally had some time to start to design some new robots. Thanks to the great success of the walking mechanism used in SmartFlea 3's i'm basically going to use that walking design on lots of robots now for a few reasons, 1. because of the extra weight from being a walker, ...

Re: The smart ant's and flea's

so, we were steadily making progress on the walker, when we realized we only had a week befor antweight open, snuck up on us rather quickly. with a whole team to rebuild or entirely make from nothing. Smart ant 3, new polycarbonate armor and new tracks Smart Ant 4, new stainless steel front plate an...
