Re: Team Coolspeedbot's robot builds

It is always nice to see a variety of construction techniques.
as someone who has never printed a bot, but uses scissors sticky tape and chewing gum
Although Kyro makes light of his methods he does produce well engineered robots.

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings

Just been doing a couple of repairs from Roboshowdown both of which can be partially blamed on poor maintenance. The weapon motor in Anticyclone was the one that came out of Combatant with a broken shaft. As a quick repair I replaced the 2mm steel shaft with a carbon fibre one which I was going to r...

Re: Peter Wallers Robot Ramblings

My drum spinner Anticyclone has terrible gyro effects when turning due to the large mass and speed of the drum. I have redesigned it with a much lighter 3D printed drum which has 3 double ended Titanium blades with an indirect geared down belt drive. The robot is also my first try at printing in Car...

Re: Basic Flipper Hinge Question

I tend to use a 2 or 3 mm diam carbon fiber rod right across the robot and hang the flipper on that. You can get short bits on ebay quite cheap. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CARBON-FIBRE-PUSH-RODS-4-x-PIECES-2mm-x-100mm-10cms/391928437447?hash=item5b40c15ac7:g:xygAAOSwirZTtBOB If you have weight to sp...

Re: The smart ant's and flea's

I was surprised how much smoother a 3 cam system was over a 2 cam allowing more speed and less bounce.

Taking it to 4 seems to add even better results

Re: GeorgeR's robots

That is a brilliant robot and probably the most original but not quite the first walker to win an AWS.
Mutant won in 2004 at AWS15 but there were far less robots to beat back then

Re: Coping with the demand (An EO's perspective)

I don't think the spinner extra charge is really warranted. I have been using my present arena for about 4 years now and although I have had to fill and repaint the base after each competition this is the first time I have had to get a new wooden surface and replace the polycarb wall around the outs...
