Re: Team Antiquarian build diary - Conclusion of Vol. 1

Sorry - never got round to finishing this thread... FWIW, I did just manage to finish four antweights (ok, three, plus one over-weight) ready for Christmas, complete with an integrated storage box / arena. Latter is built out of 12mm birch ply, plus some 6mm for the internal separators, an old sheet...

Re: Using brushed Motors for gripper or hammer weapons

FWIW, did a very quick test yesterday with one of the 1:298 motors - popped on a large wheel, clamped the motor securely in a vice, wired it directly to a 6v NiMH battery and deliberately stalled it by stopping the wheel turning. To my surprise it had no ill effects - motor didn't get hot (neither d...

Re: Using brushed Motors for gripper or hammer weapons

Thank you both for those helpful thoughts. Mark - good point about the gearbox ratio. I had been thinking about trying it with some 1:298 motors I have sitting around but that might not be sensible... Though since I don't have any other use for them I may just destruction test one to see how long it...

Using brushed Motors for gripper or hammer weapons

Quick question for anyone who's used N20-type motors either for percussive or for gripper/crusher weapons (i.e. where the motor's freedom of movement would be constrained to less than 360 degrees) ... Did you need some kind of slip-clutch, or a clever switch to cut the drive when it reaches the limi...

LiPO Bargain

I realise this will be out of date very soon - but if anyone needs some more LiPOs, HobbyKing currently have both the 2S and the 3S Turnigy Nanotech 180mah in the 'bargains bin' at £3.96 for a pack of five (less than a quarter the normal price). I went on there just now, planning to buy a single 3S ...

Re: Team Antiquarian build diary

Hi Mark, Good question - Paul suggested on another thread that it's just there to absorb voltage spikes and avoid overheating, so could probably be removed. Certainly makes sense, though TBH I've not yet needed to use one in a build where space was a real issue. If you took it off and were a bit mor...

Spin(d)oza

Was home-alone on Sunday so decided to see if I could make a bot from scratch in one day. Up to now I've been good at starting builds but rubbish at finishing them, so this was quite a challenge for me. End result is... "Spin(d)oza". Not the most exciting antweight in the nest but probably...

Poor-man's NanoTwo alternatives

To cheer myself up after missing out on Saturday's NanoTwo lottery (I hit the site 2 hours after Rory's posting but was already too late!) I decided to try wiring some of my little stock of "2/3S 5A Dual-Way Brushed ESCs" ( https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/sdCep9e ) directly into receivers...

Re: Team Antiquarian build diary

Not sure this will work - and it's a lousy video (iPhone clamped in a PCB holder!) but this might show Ffythiana being test driven and doing her self-righty thing on my workbench. Incidentally, said workbench is VERY dusty, hence the wheelspin. Really need to wash the tyres and give everything a bla...

Re: Team Antiquarian build diary (Ffythiana)

Having given up on self-tapping screws due to the problem with heads shearing off, for my next build I decided to try cutting threads directly into the polycarb. Plan this time was to have thick side panels into which I could screw thinner top/bottom plates. Like this: https://i.imgur.com/bpyyGup.jp...
