Re: Hobbyking

I used to use HK a lot when they still sold the 180mah nanotech lipos (and would often pick up random brushless motors from their bargain bin) but since Turnigy stopped making the small stuff, I've not bothered. Even with brushless motors, they seem to have far less available in teh smaller sizes no...

Re: Building an arena question

Probably worth mentioning that wedgelets ain't that big a thing in the UK antweight world. Here, getting under another pusher tends to be down to acetate. In terms of arena design, Peter's is certainly my favourite and it's what I based my own practice arena on. FWIW I think it's a design that ensur...

Re: AWS 62 - Summer/Autumn 2021

My main concern with the '2 simultaneous battles' model is what happens when evil spinner 'A' accidentally damages 'C' or 'D' while trying to launch an attack on 'B'? Given that some of the most destructive spinners are also among the hardest to control, I'd say this is likely to happen a lot - part...

Re: Work in Progress

Like I said, the tyres were too heavy, so I tweaked the core and sides of my tyre mould design and reprinted those bits. Here is the result, with the RTV silicone tube ready to come out of the mould https://i.imgur.com/Hupr8gp.jpg?1 https://i.imgur.com/sWi0ZZb.jpg?1 Cutting a tube of silicone into c...

Re: Work in Progress preview: The Undertaker

Well, it's all been a bit quiet of late so I thought I'd do a Work in Progress update... Been having a nightmare for some time now with my previously oh-so-reliable Up Mini 2 Printer, which kept throwing the X-axis off by around 1cm randomly mid-way through big prints. Was convinced it was a slippin...

Re: The Hotel Lima, for Ants: A Build Diary

On the conical-shaped metal body front, I picked up a cheap (as in <£5) stainless steel 10.5cm diameter funnel some time ago, with the intention of making a full-body spinner (working title "The Funnel of Love", as a play on the song by The Damned). Plan was to attach spikes and/or flails ...

Re: AWS 62 - Summer/Autumn 2021

Thanks Harry - very exciting news! Hoping to have a number of new bots ready by the summer, both for my team and Anthony's, so it will be good to have a target to aim for. Please not the last two weeks of August though! Impatient as I am to get back to the action, I'd have thought Autumn was the saf...

Re: Alexandorz's Build Log

Nice! Very minor point - in my experience, if a bot can balance on it's side, it will get stuck in that position at some point during a fight. So you might want to add slightly sticky-outy bits on either side, or make the side panels more convex. Sure, you can probably bounce it over using gyro effe...

Re: Ant Battery

All a bit worrying. Unless someone comes up with an economical and reliable alternative to the 180mah NanoTech lipos, the 150g ant class could be in for some real challenges. I managed to pick up a few of the 2s packs when HK were knocking them out dirt cheap, so I've got enough of those to see me t...

Re: ESC with built-in receiver - interesting?

Seriously impressive.
For the first time ever, I'm well envious of those builders who haven't already invested in several Spektrum DSM* transmitters.
