Re: AWS 61 - who wants to do it?

Is it defo on the Sunday then (15th March)?
Will be there either way - just if it's a Sunday we'll have to travel up day before and overnight somewhere. Could do it in one day on a Saturday but alas our earliest train on a Sunday wouldn't get us there till mid morning :!:

Re: Team Antiquarian & Anthony's Ant Army ready for battle

We can but dream James - we can but dream, though Nuts taking out Carbide remains an inspiration to us all (probably my favourite ever moment on RobotWars) Anyway - Jes - No I haven't tried Nylon yet, though I know Peter rates it and recommendations don't come higher than that. I get nervous about i...

Re: Team Antiquarian & Anthony's Ant Army ready for battle

BTW James - forgot to ask - how did you get on with fitting a propeller on Epic Flail?

I gave up on the idea of a vertical flail ant but I am hoping to get a 1.5kg version ("Percy Hobart's Funny Beetle") ready for the Beetleweight event in March, if time allows.

Team Antiquarian & Anthony's Ant Army - build diary updates

Since we couldn't make it up to Antfreeze, I spent the weekend messing around in the workshop. As well as getting my first fleaweight spinner just about done (details to follow in due course), been having lots of fun with the flail... Those who saw it at the Basingstoke Open or at AWS60 may recall t...

Re: ESC questions & why not USA shipping

Good point! Luckily I've not had to worry about that. I think modern receivers are more tolerant of wide voltage ranges generally, so long as you don't need 3S. Of the two receivers I use, the OrangeRx R614xn is rated for anything from 3.7 to 9.6v and the Redcon cm421 claims to be OK for 3.6 to 10v....

Re: ESC questions & why not USA shipping

Sorry to come in late on this one but going back to the original question about sourcing ESCs, don't ignore the traditional option of making your own, using servo boards. This might have been a bit of a faff in the old analogue days (balancing potentiometers and temperature drift, etc) but now that ...

Re: What Shores? (for Beetle tyres)

So, I went for the A28 and that seems to be just right. Casting direct onto the hubs but with a couple of design features to ensure the tyres can't slip or roll off. We'll have to see how they hold up in a real fight - hopefully in Chatham in March - but they look pretty tough..

Re: jes's build log

Also... watch out for flat/square sides. In a fight it's surprisingly easy to get stuck on one side or the other with all four wheels spinning to no avail as the room counts you out. For my 'bog-standard 4wd wedge' bots I like to stick a couple of machine screws in on either side, protruding just en...
