what esc/rx are you using?

opposite is what i have always done...
that can be either axis... its good practise to be the first in the arena anyway as events generally have hundreds of fights and the shorter the down time between fights, the better

while im happy theres hope of an event on the horizon, i have a few comments regarding some of your changes. the groups of 4 battles firstly: changing the format like this changes a lot... fights go from who's going to win using driver skill and/or weapon power to who's going to not get ganged up on...

i use foam to make my wheels... then use fantastic elastic for grip... use more foam than you need and sand it down to size... i put my wheels in a drill and use my powerfile to shape them... I'd suggest either a jig, or make many at once to keep them uniform... foam floor tiles (for kids to play on...

the balance connector? has 3 wires going to it if its a 2s? usually the best way to replace any connector is to crimp them... otherwise have pre crimped ones and solder them in place of the original wires at the lipo... this obviously has many more risks, and unless you feel comfortable doing this, ...

what esc are you using? does it have built in mixing or are you using your own mix via the tx?
it could just be a simple case of swapping over the 2 signal wires from the esc to the receiver
