Re: Team Antiquarian build diary - resumed!
Well, it's been a while... I was getting frustrated by my fundamental inability to bend and join materials neatly so decided to take some time out and experiment with different construction methods. Toyed with the idea of buying a 3-d printer but given how much I need to get done by Christmas, can't...

Re: Arena surface material
Thanks for those thoughts. I'll try a smooth varnish first (well, it's a nice bit of birch ply and I don't have to worry about spinners) and if that doesn't work out, I've old salvaged sheet of melamine-covered hardboard I can stick on top.

Arena surface material
Morning all. Quick question about arena construction... Currently working on our 'domestic Antweights arena' (which is basically just a 70x70cm flat box with a hinged fighting area on top and storage underneath for bots, controllers, charger, etc - all carefully dimensioned to fit under the sofa) bu...

Re: DasMikro 2S6A - latest batch dodgy?
Funnily enough Paul, that "2/3S 5A Dual-Way Brushed ESC " is what I've now switched to as well, having completely given up on BangGood. I bought one from 'The Atom Club' a little while ago - and have just bought a few more from their closing down sale (so sorry to hear that venture didn't ...

DasMikro 2S6A - latest batch dodgy?
Just wondering if anyone else has received one of the current batch of DasMikro 2S6A ESCs - specifically the ones with a neatly printed brown cardboard tab stapled across the top of the bag? The reason I ask is that I ordered four recently and they all seem to be duds. Was initially excited to see t...

Re: Soldering irons?
I'm also using an elderly Antex x25 (sadly with the clunky old pvc flex rather than supple modern silicone) and would also give the thumbs up, though life became much easier after switching to a 1mm tip. Now if someone can recommend a really GOOD helping-hands gizmo, that would be great. I've tried ...

Re: Team Antiquarian build diary
Current work in progress is a flipper called (for reasons that will become clear in due course) "Project Box Bot". Space for innards is even more constrained than usual so decided to see what I could do to slim down the Redcon 4CH DSM2 receiver + DasMicro 2S6A ESC combination. With some tr...

Re: The adventures of an antweight robot building nerb
As you may have already noticed, there's a basic wiring diagram (annotated photograph) on the Banggood website's product page. For the servo leads, it doesn't help that the wire colour combinations vary from one pack to the next - but should be either Brown/Red/Orange or Black/Red/White. With the mo...

Re: Team Antiquarian build diary
Actually managed to get quite a lot of time in the workshop this weekend (and with TMS on the radio too - sheer bliss) so I've been experimenting with alternative ways to build using polycarbonate sheets. I have some large sheets of the stuff and various off-cuts lying around, left over from DIY sec...

Re: Team Antiquarian build diary
On reflection, decided that my "Flippin' Ugly" experiment (see above) might be salvageable, if I could lower the aspect ratio and move the wheels back a bit. So... out with the tin-snips and on with the face lift. Basically chopped off the top third of the wedge; https://i.imgur.com/NtVtvu...
