When I made controllers I fitted them with a 4 pin plug for the servo / brushless controller.
The first 3 pins were he standard servo output and the fourth was the full battery voltage.
I then supplied a 4 way connector shell ( the same as the one for the motors in the picture above ) that if you required it, you could fit the pins of the servo / brushless contoller into, moving the 2nd pin (+5v) to the 4th position (+ bat).
The main problems were it was possible to plug the connector in incorrectly and cause possible damage so I fitted a red sleeve on the +bat pin to help prevent this.
Also some servo's started using pins that did not fit my standard 4 way shell.
All these connectors make for a bigger and heavier controller.

I guess if you disabled the Bec it wouldn't be all that difficult to crack open a brushless esc, unsolder the red wire that goes to the rx and solder it on in place of the positive a battery terminal, if you see what I mean?

Yeah, I've tweaked it now so the servo socket can be set for full battery voltage if needed. The power for a brushless ESC could be taken from here, but other than that there's no easy way to do it properly. I think I might also see if I can fit a proper bind socket; had no end of trouble with people trying to bind and putting the bit of bind wire in the wrong holes on the RX.
The new layout's pretty much done. It's going to be about half as thick as the old version, but slightly larger so it fits nicely with a lemon RX (just hope they don't discontinue/ change them any time soon!)

Out of the box thinking: maybe a bind button? Just a tiny latching push button on the board? Not sure if this is a practical idea but might make things easier?

Was just looking at that however a) no one seems to make any that are quite the right size, and b) trying to hold down a button whilst plugging in a battery would be quite tricky... Worked out how to do a bind socket fairly neatly though so hopefully should work fine

Comparison between the V1 and V2:
A little thinner, and the wires come out the same end so should make it easier to squeeze in to small gaps, but more importantly they take me about half the time to make as the V1s, and are a lot less tedious, so hopefully I can start to clear some of my backlog of orders soon.

I see you don't have any antennae wires on the lemonrx, do you remove these or tuck them under the heat shrink?

In the V2s they're replaced with PCB traces on the back of the ESC to help keep the number of wires to a minimum. The V1s just have the antenna tucked in the heatshrink.

Starting to look into the next generation of antweight and nanoweight ESCs. This is the prototype of the PicoTwo controller which I'm looking at as a possible upgrade from the NanoTwo. It's currently using one of the tiny deltang knock off DSM2 RXs, but am hoping to move it to a similar sized DSMX compatible RX I've found. It's a dual 1A ESC on 2S, so the performance is almost identical to the NanoTwos, but at 12x11mm it's about 1/4 the size. Depending on how things go I'm hoping to do a commercial version at some point next year.

Looking good, the ability to use 2 cells in a nano would be greatly simplified.
