Re: featherweight shells
decided that after i've been to some events and had some practice with minor tom i'm making minor tom a crusher with around 500kg of power ( watch out explosion )

Re: featherweight shells
get the strongest linear actuator I can find and do alot of maths to work out the best blade i can make for it in terms of dimensions to maximise crushing power

If this is a featherweight, good luck, it can be done.
If it is an ant, don't go there. Seriously.

Re: featherweight shells
Phew. Well my crusher (which is in the works) aims to have a crush of 50kg which is ample for gripping. Good on you for being ambitious but a crusher that powerful would be either unbelievably slow or unbelievably expensive. If you are aiming for that sort of power then consider hydraulics, they may be you're best bet.

Re: featherweight shells
Hmmm. A pretty pricey actuator produces 50kg of force so in order to have 500kg of crush the force would need to be applied at 10 times the distance from the pivot than the tip of the claw (assuming your using a class 1 lever system). Pretty tricky. Also, please tell me if I've done my calculations wrong, I do a lot of the time and embarrass myself.

Re: featherweight shells
its just on a "do it and see how it goes" thing
it was about £50 for the actuator
