I've never used it but apparently alumide is really brittle. Better to go with the hdpe i'd say.

Re: Tips for sketchup/3d printing
Finally got the brushless motor correct but it was a bit of a struggle.
Your method worked Josh but only one of the four holes came out correctly so I had to copy the inside of the good hole and rotate and place it in each of the other three.
I have now placed the brushless motor drawing and two versions of the Turnigy TGY-90S servo (single and double horn) on the 3D Warehouse if anyone want's to use them.
Just search for Turnigy or Brushless to find them.
Or in glorious technicolour

Just ordered some bits on Shapeways last night.
A chassis and some wheels for a new combatant and some Tamiya drive wheels for the tracks on Defiant that fit straight on to the motor shaft.

Re: Tips for sketchup/3d printing
The Shapeways stuff arrived on Friday a little late and with slightly mixed results due to my drawings.
The track drive wheels for defiant were slightly too wide on the part that has the drive teeth on which causes the tracks to ride up sometimes but once I had taken 0.5mm off each side they work very smoothly and reduce the weight for each one from 3.5gms (old ones with aluminium hub) to 2gms.
The chassis for CombatAnt had one slight error but it will not effect it and the fit of the drive motor gearboxes and the spinner motor/blade is really good.
The wheels I think I have made a little too light and weak.

Damage to Shapeways WS&F after two fights with a spinner (Variant)
Re: Tips for sketchup/3d printing
Thats nothing Shapeways can be strong when used in a decent thickness, a lot of the intricate designs people use shapeways for can be fragile.
