Dorset Robot Championship - 24th November 2018

Post by atomclub »

Hey everyone - registrations are now open via Antlog: http://antlog.garya.org.uk/event/13

This will be a great change to show you all the ever growing Robot Wars Exhibit at the centre and show you what we've been doing with our fortnightly Robot Combat Club.

The event will be live streamed via youtube.

I'm pleased to announce one of our judges: the one and only Tim Rackley from Concussion / Monsoooooooooon / AU Thumper / Smushed Banana

Saturday 24th November 2018
Dorset Science & Technology Centre
Sturminster Newton
Dorset
DT10 2AD

Full itinerary will be released shortly, but currently looking at:
8:00 - Doors open (including engineering zone)
9:00 - Registration and tech checks start
9:30 - Additional Robot Games start
10:30 - Fights start
12:45 - Lunch break
13:30 - Fights resume
c. 16:00 - Awards presented

Plenty of free parking on site.
All parts in the store will be on sale, including our new micro DESCs if they're ready... (cutting it fine).
Free tea/coffee (or donation for lattes, etc).
Snacks and cans available all day (donations)
Caterers providing discounted options for lunch (menu coming shortly) with 50% of proceeds being donated to the centre :-)

The championship will be a double elimination using AWS rules. Due to the nature of our mission, judges are being given some tolerances on weight and size, particularly with our younger competitors.

We're finalising now, but there should be a couple of additional challenges running alongside the main event (with prizes) - Sumo, straight line speed test and an obstacle course are being worked on.

We're in talks about discounted accommodation.

There are of course costs to putting on the event, especially as it's our first big RC one, so we are asking for £5 / team as a minimum donation. I hope you'll understand.

I'll report back with more details shortly, but we'd love to see you all there.

Will the sumo include minisumo I have just dusted my old ones off and loaded some older code (my latest was rubbish) and two of them seem to be functional. Probably a bit outdated these days but worth a try if your running them.

Thanks guys
If there's time and bots the I don't see why not, but I don't think we'll have any/many automated sumo bots- just normal ants.

There'll also be the mohawk award for whom can beat one of Tim's bots in the quickest time!
