Mini Game Event?

Post by TeamCrash »

It'd be pretty cool idea, which I know has been done before. Anyone up for it?

The closest thing we currently have to what I think you're talking about is the non-AWS events like Ant-Freeze and the Antweight open, which usually have a lot of mini games after the main tournament.

On a related note, I've been toying with the concept of organising a few more regular, less formal meetups here in Reading. Us uni lot (aka, Will, Alex, Callum and I, plus a few other new guys) meet up on campus every fortnight, get the arena out and have a few hours of random fighting and working on bots. It's very informal, but gives us a chance to test new designs, (including spinners... tbh, most of the time it's just us smashing things with spinners in the name of 'testing' ), get in some good practice, and discuss ideas.

I've recently been thinking about organising these informal meetups in a way in which anyone from the community could come along for a few hours, get some practice, have some mini games (hence the slight hijacking of this thread :L), and talk face to face rather than just across the forum. I realise it would only really work for those of you in the Reading area, but could still be fun. It's very much just an idea still, but I just thought I'd see what you guys think before I look more into the practicalities of it...

Count me in for that :)

A while ago I ran the ATC's (Antweight Team Champs), and that have combat and the different games, and I do want to run that again at some point soon, just a matter of organising it.

I would certainly be interested as well.
Besides being fun I need the practice and more strenuous testing of new robots between AWS's.

Rory, if you can organise it for a weekend I'm sure you'd get a good response.
When Simon ran the Reading Robot Club it was always well attended. Probably the majority of the antweight community live within a couple of hours of Reading so it's feasible for a shorter/less formal event.
