AWS NI?

Post by Remote-Controlled Dave »

Just a quick straw poll. Me and Gemma have talked about the possibility of hosting an AWS in Northern Ireland for a bit now but wouldn't want to do it if it would mean the turn out was massively effected. I kind of know the people who would definitely come if we did but I just wanted to conduct a general poll before we even think about maybe talking about it. Haven't even thought of a venue or anything, so wouldn't be any of the ones next year, or even maybe the one after. But we know its much easier for us to come across to you guys then to try and get everyone over to us!

As a reference point, and if you don't mind me asking, roughly how much does it usually cost when you come over here for an AWS? That'll give me an idea of how much it'll cost to come over to you.

Gemma says flights with luggage are usually about £70 each return. Then a hotel, plus whatever it costs to travel to/from an airport. Or there's a car ferry but that's usually extortionate. And that price is with us being organised and booking relatively early. It's a pretty substantial investment for something we could just hold over on "the mainland".

That's not too bad at all; I'd definitely be up for that barring some unforeseen negative financial circumstance. Do airport security ever give you any trouble with your robot stuff?

I would be quite content to come over for that price :).

Defo up for an AWS in NI if you were arranging it. It's an extra expense, but we'll worth it for a bit of diversity on the location. We're rarely off the mainland of Britain.

Maybe I should start looking at venues then! Wasn't expecting such a positive response.
The only thing we've ever had trouble with at airport security is a cake...tools go in the hold, as do battery-less robots. Batteries, controllers and the odd robot come through in hand luggage. I take everything out of the bag so its all on show and, besides the odd rescan or interested comment, no-ones ever even blinked.

However, looking at the "toolbox" thread on here, we do travel with a lot less than a lot of you!
