Ant Weight Open - Basingstoke 23rd Nov 2013

Post by Hogi »

Hi All,

My son Dan is keen to host an non AWS event at the community hall in Basingstoke (North Hampshire) where I work.

Would any of you be interested in attending?

As most of you know Dan is only 14 and would not be able to organise it himself so would need help with running and organising it. We would also need people to bring arena's with them.

We would provide the venue, certificates and prizes.

He is keen to have a conventional competition and things like, obstical course, tag team, football any other suggestions are welcome.

Also what sort of date would be good? How would the beginning of December suit? after the next AWS but before the January event.

Thanks Vicki

Provided the dates are ok, I'd definitely plan on coming along. And given the location, I think most of the regulars would be up for it too. It's great to see so many people wanting to host events. December might be a bit hectic though as that would mean there were competitions in 3 consecutive months. Certainly wouldn't be a problem for me, but I can't speak for others.

Sounds good to me and fairly local by robot competition standards.
As far as I can remember I am busy on the 25th and 26th but the rest of December looks clear.
Assuming nothing crops up before then I can bring my arena and the Reading Robots race way track.

If the dates are right you can definitely count us in.
It'll be nice to have an event which doesn't mean sitting in a car for numerous hours on end :P

Thanks for all the positive feedback, we would stick to the basic AWS rules, no point in changing what's not broken.

Peter, are you giving away your secret identity as father Christmas?

Would anyone be able to bring or share the software that was used for AWS41?

We would be able to have the hall all day and all evening, so planning a conventional competition first, then fun comps, like football, tag team, anhiolator etc..

I'll wait until 'I get some more feed back on here before setting a provisional date, hopefully within the next week or so.

Dan/Vicki
The AntLog software is available on my website http://garya.org.uk/antweight-robots/antlog
The software runs on OpenOffice or LibreOffice, both of which are free and available for Windows, Mac and Linux.
AntLog2 is the version Rhys was using at AWS41 and automates the draw process and provides the "upcoming fights" display.
