Phew. Well my crusher (which is in the works) aims to have a crush of 50kg which is ample for gripping. Good on you for being ambitious but a crusher that powerful would be either unbelievably slow or unbelievably expensive. If you are aiming for that sort of power then consider hydraulics, they may be you're best bet.

Hmmm. A pretty pricey actuator produces 50kg of force so in order to have 500kg of crush the force would need to be applied at 10 times the distance from the pivot than the tip of the claw (assuming your using a class 1 lever system). Pretty tricky. Also, please tell me if I've done my calculations wrong, I do a lot of the time and embarrass myself.

its just on a "do it and see how it goes" thing
it was about £50 for the actuator

I'm all for doing things and seeing how they go. I'm just warning against expecting incredible results cos normally they don't come by chance. :)

I don't expect incredible results I'm just going to get it running first and then work out the best way to get the maximum amount of power from my linac but still be able to fit robots into the claw
