Materials

Post by bitternboy »

Just wondering if there was a versatile, cheap material I could use for chassis and armour that is sold in large sheets. I know some metals can cost a fortune so I was thinking some sort of Fibreglass but I havn't found any suppliers.

Hi there.
Most people tend to use HDPE, nylon or a similar plastic in the thickness of between 12-20mm for the chassies and thinner pieces of it for armor in some cases.
I myself have gotten some HDPE 300, 15mm thick which was quite cheap and easily worked with using either an electric power saw or even a hand held one.
Most UK roboteers seem to use this place when ordering: http://www.directplasticsonline.co.uk

I'm using 1mm and 2mm HDPE for ants from that very site. Used it for everything from ants up to the heavyweight.
