my ant spinner also that model of brushless. are you gonna get a 3D printed mount for the disc? i got Alex to print one for me and he managed to get it very well balanced. also, will this be another under cutter?

Rory I have been having second thoughts about the motor.
I chose it originally as it was the thinest motor I had but I am concerned about how the legs will stand up to the impact and if they might bend in far enough to engage the spinner.
As it turns out a taller motor would bring the blade down lower so I might be changing to a longer but smaller diameter one.
Dan it is likely to be an udercutter but I prefer to make my blade hubs out of fibreglass or aluminium as they are stronger and can take a grub screw better.
One strange thing I have noticed is that when inverted it still travels in the same direction which probably means left and right are reversed.

Those motors are really good if you can get them well supported, but that's tricky in an undercutter.. What sort of weight do you have spare for the blade?

That's the motor I had my "spinner incident" with. I also broke one with a big hit because it was badly supported and the impact snapped the wires on the inside. Its not one that lends itself to easy maintenance.

Yeah, I had to do a lot of babying to get it to run in Bad Idea without destroying itself..

my one is bolted into a very solid 4mm HDPE verticle mounting piece which i think absorbs most of the force on hits. it also helps to have the blade exactly balanced i think. i've never had a problem with it but then again i have yet to hit anything properly.

I'm pretty sure yours is a smaller ~50w version Dan; this one is ~125w and quite a bit larger.

I don't think it is the same motor they just look alike the one I have is 30mm diameter which is quite large.
Either way it is hardly a silly noob thing you seem to be gaining experience and knowledge at a good rate to me.
Anyway I have abandoned that motor for a much smaller one as below although this one I have broken so am awiting another from HobbyKing.

Also I have been having problems with putting some protection down the outside of the legs, within the 3 inch cube, to avoid the opposition pushing my legs into the spinner.
Here it is sofar still needs a disc and brushless controller but it is at least moving around and weighing in at 76gms.
