Non Lithium Batteries

Post by peterwaller »

There are still people interested in still using NiMh batteries especially for younger roboteers so here are a few links I have found recently for individual cells.

Those cells on the 3rd linklook like what I'm trying to get for Ant and Dec, any idea on where to get some complete packs ?

Or if not, anyone ever made their own packs ?

Making a pack with tagged cells is fairly straight foward just a bit of soldering.
I have ordered 5 of them to see how they work with my controller if they are any good I could knock you up a couple of packs for the price of the bits.
They are 1/3 AA so the pack should weigh in at just over 40 gms.

40g ?!

When I weighed the 6v 120mA pack it was 16g, so 40g for 2 seems odd to me.

The 120mah are 1/4AAA where as the 300mah are 2/3AAA or 1/3AA but the site quotes 8gms per cell and 5 cells for 6v gives 40gms.

Its the 1/4 AAA that i have atm and its those i've factored the weight for (Ant and Dec are both pushing it)

I've ordered 4 packs of them from a swedish website that Joacim linked to in a previous thread:

The ones in your link are 1/3 aaa and 19.6 gms so two of them in parallel will still be almost 40 gms and only 240mah. Connecting two packs in parrallel can be a bit dodgy unless the packs are equally charged when they are connected other wise the higher voltage one will discharge into the lower one with nothing to limit the current but the battery source impedance. I have just got the 300 mah cells and they are infact 40 gms with another 3 gms for the cable and connector.
