Nanoweight Robots

Post by Rapidrory »

As you may have seen from my build thread, there's been a fair amount of interest in starting an actual Nanoweight robot class.

Current Nanoweights rules are:

Must fit in a 50mm cube
Must weigh under 25g

All other rules are the same as that for ants.

There's currently some rough plans to hold a competition for this weight class at the end of the next AWS and at the Antweight Open.

I've got the parts for 2 arriving tomorrow hopefully :)

The design for one is already done and printing, Still trying to work out what to do with the second one :)

We still need an arena, which'll probably be about 50cmx50cm. We'll need some polycarb round it as well, though 1mm would probably be perfectly adequate...

I'll see what I can rustle up arena wise but I don't think I have enough Poly to encase it?

We did have a dudeweight class a while go that was 1oz 28.3g I think that was a 1" cube. 2" cube 25g would an interesting challenge to drive.

They're not too bad to drive, I just find them more interesting to build; I can churn out ants at an alarming rate these days.
Nanoweights are a little more of a challenge to do as much as possible with a tiny weight, and take up less space in my tool box :P

Hogi, the only option really which doesn't require mods is to use these: http://www.technobotsonline.com/solarbo ... motor.html with these http://www.robotshop.com/en/solarbotics ... heels.html tires (someone check that's right.). I believe it's the same as Alsoran uses, but it's not overly cheap...

Also, if someone (probably Will..) could 3D print a 50mm cube then that'd be more accurate than using a cardboard one.. Also I'm sure we could splash out on some 1mm polycarb for the job.. if not we can just have a raised platform in the middle of the antweight arena like we did with the fleas, though that's less helpful for running events side by side..

so, would i have to run those motors with some form of speed controller board? are any recommended? if nanoweights take off i'll probably build once i've got the money ( probably christmas. it'd also be nice to have something propper to cluster transit ant with as well.

Struggling to find much enthusiasm for these myself but if someone is going to have a 6 part clusterbot entered into the AWS then that's something I really look forward to seeing!
