DSMX / DSM2 Compatibility

Post by peterwaller »

I know I mentioned this in one of the other threads but I have been looking into it a bit more and it looks like virtually all new Spektrum transmitters now for sale are only DSMX compatible and no longer DSM2. This means they won't work with any of my old controllers that incorporated the Lemon receivers or for that matter Rory's.
As far as I can see it is only Spektrum who have done this so models such as the DX5, DX6, DX6i, DX7, DX8 and presumably the MLP4DSM will no longer be compatible.

Well that's just great considering I just bought 200 ESC boards which only fit a Lemon.. Ah well, hopefully DSM2 doesn't die out too quick.

Maybe they would fit this:

Assuming you could get it without the pins

To be honest I can't see it dying out any time soon for robotics as so many of us have many controllers based on DSM2.
I am considering getting a second hand DX6i just so I have a spare, it is apparently only Spektrum who have taken this decision.

I know, it'll just be a pain trying to provide controllers for newcomers if blade's can either be DSM2 or DSMX depending on their age... Just hope Spektrum make I clear which I whitch!

Hopefully these two threads from rchobby.com will make the situation clearer.http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2138241 and http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2315800

TL;DR version :

AIUI

1) It has been illegal to sell non-DMSX transmitters since Jan 1st 2015.

2) Retailers have been allowed to sell old stock imported before 1/1/2015.

3) Recievers are not affected.
