Batteries

Post by Remote-Controlled Dave »

Hi all.
Been thinking about upgrading lipos as mine as getting so old. Currently everything uses 2 cell 25C 180mAh 7.4v packs. I am looking for recommendations - light, cheap, reliable and UK based (preferably with no added shipping costs or problems with Northern Ireland). What does everyone recommend or use? Not really comfortable with making my own packs or increasing the voltage.
Thanks in advance.

These are very good but about the same spec as you have been using.

180 mah 25C continuous 40C surge 13gms £2.56 from their UK warehouse.
You can go smaller to these but they only have the balanced connector so you need to change it for the usual red one.

120 mah 25C 8.5 gms £2.57.
A quick note that might be useful the C rating is the current you can draw and stands for capacity.
So if you take the top battery its capacity is 180mah and the continuous C rating is 25 so you can draw 180 * 25 = 4500 ma or 4.5 amps.
The 40C surge means you can draw 180 * 40 = 7200 ma or 7.2 amps for short periods.
This can be important because motors and servos tend to draw quite high surge currents when starting so as long as they are not stalled for long periods you can get away with smaller batteries than expected.

These are really good. I used one in Randar at the last event. I use the 120mah ones in the rest of my ants. You could easily get away with the 120mah version unless you are planning on building a spinner.

They're UK based, but I'm not sure if they charge extra to Northern Ireland. But to be honest, postage from China is normally under a fiver and only takes a week to arrive.

Edit: Ah, Pete beat me to it. But at least we're both pointing in the same direction!

The fact you both go for the same thing is very encouraging! Thanks guys, great help as always. Its encouraging to know I can still do this all with minimum knowledge.

Yup, I use two of those 180 mAh lipos, and haven't had any problems with them!

I keep 4 of those batteries around and they are great :) Run both Stanley and Accelerant off of them
