Moving back to the topic...
I have done some quick maths, and so far the total weight of the robot is 83.08 grams (without chassis, armour, weapon or battery). Is this an ok weight, or should I start bringing it down now?
Also, can anyone recommend some good batteries (either LiPo or NiCad)?

Seems like a decent ground weight to me. Gives you a good threshold to play with for the rest of it.

Re: General questions for first robot
That seems a little heavy for just the basic parts, are you able to post your part list and weights?

Re: General questions for first robot
i would advise against using a sabertooth in a spinner, they are very big and heavy.
go for a waller board or some bane bots.
any reason for the 56:1 over the cheaper ebay 50:1s?

Re: General questions for first robot
I am using the 56:1 as they are easy to access where I live, and I do not like using eBay if possible. I will have a look at other speed controllers for the drive motors, as you have suggested.
