Servo reversing on MLP4DSM transmitter

yes that's it Dave. It's strange because the throttle up/down on the MLP4DSM is the opposite to my DX4e. I guess in order to reverse the servo itself would require swapping the two motor wires and also the two outer pot wires?

Yes, you're right. On smaller servos it can be tricky to reverse the pot' connections though.
