i'd recommend atleast 1mm, for your pnumatic ant you'll need:

tank-a small canister of 20ml+ i'd recommend
ram-you can use lego or another small ram.
fill valve-got mine of an old bike tyre
pneumatic tubing-got mine of ebay
switch-i used a lego one but its hard to modify andrew had a link to a posh one which would be better

thats your pneumatic setup

i pulled off the top plastic bit until i just had the canister with a small nozzle sticking out of the top, i then glued the nozzle into the shut position and drilled holes for the fill valve and another hole for the tubing to go to the system.

is it safe to do this?

so if i got this right, i empty the bottle, take off the cap, and glue the hole, and then make two new holes for the fill valve and system. Then i put in the tubing in the holes and glue it air thight.

Which thickness should the tubing be?

Would you be able to drill through the nozzle and have that as the fill/connection hole?

yes it is safe to do this as long the canister is empty before you start drilling!
you could probably drill the nozzle and use it but as it is on the top of the canister i find it easier to drill holes in the side.

if you're using lego pneumatics the tubing should be 2.5mm id. the tubing i'm using is 2.5mm id and 4mm od.

i attached the fill valve directly onto my tank and glued in place. i drilled a 4mm hole in the tank and glued in place my tubing. they should hold with just glue :)
