New Speedos ?
Hi Guys
Since the Sozbot boards are no longer in production and the Scorpion 2's are slow in coming, I went looking for another brushed motor controller, and found this:

For ?12:99 its cheaper than the scorpions, Sozbots and Banebots.
Opinions ?

I recently found this: its a little heavy but looking at it is can be reduced enough, and because its for a car, it has reverse, and also handles 80A, which is HUGE for an ant.

Dave, that is a single-channel speed controller weighing 26g. That's 52g gone on speed controllers alone! It's probably suitable for a 1-3kg 'bot.
I think the Sabertooth 5 is effectively the replacement for the Barello and Scorpion controllers. It costs $59 from RobotMarketplace: http://www.robotmarketplace.com/product ... X5-RC.html
Alternatively, there's Olivers solution of using the control boards from cheap standard-size servos.

I agree that the controller above is heavy, but as for single channel, thats all I need, its for BH's axe, and also, how oliver gets his boards not to burn is beyond me, because having made an ant using servo boards as a demo-bot this weekend, I found that they can't even handle my 30:1 Solarbotics on 4.8v
Since the scorpion mini's 2 are not out yet, these might also be an option:
http://www.robotpower.com/products/scorpion_info.html as a replacement for the Barello's.

Thanks,

I haven't used them, but the spec looks good and says all the things I would expect. The only downside is that you don't get mixing built into these (like the Scorpion Minis), but that doesn't matter if your Tx includes mixing anyway...
The advice in the manual about adding capacitors across the motor terminals is very good advice, and applies to all motors and speed controllers. Servos have them built in. They have to be fitted right on the motor terminals, fitting them on the speed controller at the other end of 50-100mm of wire is no good at all.
