Ewan, you can almost certainly gain some more space my making the robot longer.
There is no restriction on which way round a robot fits in the cube. The diagonal is a massive 141mm! If you are only 20mm thick you can certainly be more than 100mm long.
You might want to check the width though and allow enough room for the drive train. You could always stick to 100mm long and make the overall width fit across the diagonal of the cube, but with 30mm wheels you wont be able to go quite so far into the corners.
