Team Pushover's Ants Build Log.

Post by Retroman »

So, after almost giving up last year, here we are. I'm going to create just the one build log rather than keep cluttering up the forum.

I've just finished up a rebuild of the AW Pullover, challenging myself to build as neatly as possible. Now, having finished shrink wrapping all the joints, I plug the battery in, insert link/fuse, aaaand, the fuse blew...

I think I'm already way underspecced on the fuse anyway, but I obviously have a short somewhere... great...

Specs:
NanoTwo V3
Vex29 for grabber
2s 20c 350mah (I think) LiPo
5A fuse
2 x 1000rpm (alleged) n20's for drive
1 x 60rpm high torque n20 for grabber
25mm tough hub wheels
Main body is recycled high impact plastic, grabber arm is from an offcut (polycarb version as spare) and bottom/rear panel are 1.5mm polycarbonate

Can't add pics, so until I sort some image hosting you'll have to use your imagination... or see it on the FRA site...

Pic uploaded!

First off - my GOD that's a big LiPo! I run a single 180mah (as do most non-spinners I believe) - I'm going to assume immediately that it's 360mah and not 3500mah as that would be incredibly overkill.
Secondly - I'm curious as to what you're using the fuse for? And where would it be? Though 5A blowing immediately is... surprising. At stall, each N20 shouldn't draw any more than 2a and the NanoTwo has fairly negligible draw (I believe?). If all 3 of your motors were at stall, sure, I could see it blowing the fuse. That it blew INSTANTLY is a touch worrying.
For image hosting, I use imgbb.com (no account required) - in the shareable link bit there's an option for forum bb code.
also 1.5mm polycarb is pretty thick. Not overkill, but definitely on the tougher side of standard construction polycarb.
I look forwards to seeing pictures!

Yeah the batteries are 350mah... typo...

The poly carb rear and hollow nose section are anti-spinner precautions. Edit: we only weigh in a 127g atm too! :D

Right the fuse is + side of the battery before anything else, and is accessible from underneath to use as a removable link, 2 birds with 1 stone also mean it protects my robot (and wallet) from me being a clutz.

I'll check out that hosting now and see if I can get something up.

Also I appear to have found the issue, the + and - have ended up reversed, that'll teach me for soldering in situ. I just hope that the fuse protected the NanoTwo...

If the NanoTwo did not release it's magic smoke, then you might be okay!

Thankfully, no magic smoke! The fuse did it's job I assume.

Imgbb is a weird one. When you go to the image, there is a shareable link generator that can generate bb code for forums. On the desktop version, there's the "Embed codes" tab.

was done with

Code: Select all

Ah thanks Kyro, I've never been much good at the whole forum thing... I'll get there eventually

Yeah maybe the issue with imgbb is that I'm using mobile because I'm lazy and the PC is all the way over there on the other side of the room...

It's an option from mobile as well - I do all my picture uploads from mobile. After the image has been uploaded, there's a "shareable links" dropdown menu., You can change it to BBcode for Forums. Hang on, I'll grab a screenshot
