Cilit BANG 90% there with design, just some more work on the chassis to hold all the components (with room for [most] wires this time!)
Offset composite weapon bar looks very unbalanced, but it will be fiiiine :P

Had to reduce to 4 legs to save weight and space... 0 pushing power on this thing. Plus going to be fragile, mostly held together with m2 threaded steel rods! The wobble factor is worrying me too... especially if the weapon bar flexes to the side and catches its own frame... going to apex big time! It may turn out it is completely undriveable or flips over when moving. In which case ill just take the bar and stick it on a horizontal spinner or something
Basically.. It's not competitive at all, just the most complex crazy swarf i could come up with.

Got to practice my best Barry Scott impression ..."BANG and the bot is gone!" (opponents or mine.. either is good)

In other news, DisinfectANT is rebuilt with thanks to a nanotwo which i finally got time to install.

New front shield as the old one was torn up. Will redo the chassis later to accommodate all the electronics better so less is hanging out the arse! Plus have to make a new drum as this one is unbalanced a little, after the loss of the teeth. Sheared screws... M2.5 high tensile steel next time.
Have some grams spare on him... so toying with either adding a self righter or a bigger drum :P
But for now, at least i can practice driving and tweak TX settings.

That thing just looks SILLY, and in the most beautiful way! I just really, REALLY hope it isn't going to Drizzle itself. I'm also slightly worried that the wobble from the walker mechanism (if there is any) combined with the gyro effect of a bar - especially one that high off the ground - is gonna make it undriveable?
OH ME OF LITTLE FAITH
I cannot wait to see this work. It'll be beautiful! And utterly silly. With a side dish of terrifying. :D

That looks fantastically mad, I love it. Are you coming along to the AWS in a couple of weeks? It'd be good to see them in action.

That bar is insane! How heavy is it going to be?

Hah yea i share your concerns!
There will be no wobble from the walker mechanism though :D 4 points always in contact with the floor at all times of the cycle (front, back and 2 of the legs)
But highly likely it wont be able to turn without programming the bar to decelerate at the same time xD
The drizzle self KO is going to be highly likely! like 3mm of frame clearance on each side of the bar!

Will make a more sensible brick of a drum spinner next, i promise :P Nah i dont get much free time lately, would love to come to AWS but i think I'll end up being more ready for it next year and other local events later this year :)

40g of spinney goodness :D
Which is likely to explode itself as much as it is the opponent xD

EDIT: Did some calculations and the weapon tip speed would have been 437mph (considering estimated 25% power loss to friction and air resistance) ... im toning that back below the 300mph range else it really will just make the bot fly away!

Time for some build log image spam. :D

Bought a broken lathe for cheap. Sherline 4000, which is nice for small work. 1987 edition though and getting rusty, motor and electronics are shot. Here after some cleanup
Image

Cleaned the motor, fixed brushes, reassembled it.

Speed control board is dead. No blown capacitors or anything visibly wrong. Took ages to find a supplier of a new one.
Old board
Image

New one even has LEDs, welcome to 2019 sherline.
Image

In the old mountings, it fits.
Image

New rocker switch needed too. Took the old one apart and it had worn out the brass internals. Crazy how many times it must have been used
Image

Uh-huh. Easy enough
Image

And it works, after a bit of alignment to make it suitable for fine work like this. 2mm diam pins for the legs out of alu 6061. Would upload a video lathing if there was an easy way to do so...
Image

Legs are going together. 4 pins made... 20 to go. Circlips added to 1.6mm shaft sections.
Image

Which reminds me, leg struts were cnc milled. 1mm alu and 2mm alu sheet,
Image

Made some spares since i need spare leg modules since... they wont survive any hits.
Image

So a lot of the bot will be polycarbonate. The flex and toughness is a good pair with the rigidity of the aluminium. So i started on the frame elements. Turns out breathing the dust is bad... learnt to use a dust mask now...
1st Attempt with polycarb, cuts ok. Needed some hand finishing
Image
Much better result
Image
Image

So the main frame is 3mm polycarb. With supports it should be pretty rigid.
Image
Image
Image

And the other side. Lengthy milling these.. id rather these parts didnt break..
Image

Next lathed up some standoffs for the frame from alu 7075. My late grandad worked building early war planes, I have been clearing his garage and inherited some nice alumimium stock. I think he would have been pleased his aircraft grade metal stash is going to some good use :)
Image
Ahh 0.5mm tolerance between moving parts is satisfying when it works in the real world as well as CAD
Image

Time to make the weapon bar end tooth. Will need a few of these, as spinner to spinner impacts will chip away at it.
Lengthy ...
Image
process...
Image
is...
Image
lengthy...
Image
But all done.
Image

Now just a load more aluminium parts to make and we will plod along with the second half of this bot! More coming next month when i have made more progress on the parts

that looks epic... i envy your tool collection...

so far it looks like its going to be a thing of beauty... i dont know if i had built that, that I would be able to watch it get broken in combat.

after these little teasers, i cannot wait to see the finished product.

Thanks! :D
Im a bit lucky that this ties in with my day job

Yep! I will cry like a sleep deprived baby if it gets blown into pieces :P
Haha nah, seriously - it wont put me off fighting with it. The main aim to disintigrate other bots  so i have to accept with good sportsmanship, if/when it happens to me

Titanium teeth, angled to get maximum surface impact on a bot going up the wedge. Held in place with wishful thinking and 2x M3 screws.

I'd imagine decent m3 bolts would be capable, so is the wishful thinking overkill?
And WOW am I looking forwards to testing my build quality against that bar! :D
Oh, and I usually just stick any videos unlisted on YouTube, then drop a link here. Otherwise... Google drive?

Wow indeed. All the orthodontists in Hollywood couldn't conjure up teeth as perfect as those. And in titanium?!? All my recent attempts to work that stuff have resulted in burnt, scarred fingers, blunted saw-blades, worn out cutting disks, a workshop that stinks of burning metal - and some odd misshapen shards of titanium that look almost nothing like what I was intending to make. Was that all done using the Sherline?

Can't wait to see the beast in action, even if one of my robots is on the receiving end...
