NanoTwo Alternative Wheels

Post by oxhey »

So I am almost ready to reveal my first bot, but the wheels that come with the NanoTwo kit dont seem to stay on.
Its really difficult to get the d-shaft into the wheel.

Anyway, would these Pololu wheels work (https://www.proto-pic.co.uk/pair-of-bla ... x-7mm.html) or are there any alternative wheels?

SUSPENDED! - I dont have the time/money to fully commit and I may have killed a motor and my NanoTwo :o !

I may give this another go at some point, but for now its over.

The polulu's work fine but even if the nano two onesneed a little sanding, once They are on they are much gripper and better and won't come of without a very vigorous tug

Those will, they're what the kit wheels are based on :) Other options include Scalextric 3mm axle wheels, Fingertech wheels, or really any wheel with a 3mm bore!

Really ? any with a 3mm bore? Doesn't it have to have a bore for a D-shaft?

so what about these - They say theior for a hex shaft - http://www.technobotsonline.com/tamiya- ... e-set.html

Hex shafts probably won't work, but most wheels with a 3mm bore in my experience come with a grub screw to attach to the shaft (I know, I know, "set screws suck", but I've honestly never had an issue with them even going a year between tightening at times). Failing that, epoxy or superglue works at ant scale! :P

The wheels that come with the nanotwo kits are meant to be a tight fit to help not only stay on but also to help keep them on the shaft over time (This may require a bit of force to get them on). I'm actually the person that makes them and have always advised a drop of superglue to help not only keep them on but prevent the shaft from rounding out over time.

If that doesn't help them drop me a message and I'll help get it all sorted. :)

Iv tried applying pressure but can only get it in about half way, at which point any movement and the wheel comes off. I haven't tried super glue yet.

Don't be afraid to use a little force, I gently use a very small hammer sometimes. Holding the motor in your hand and carefully tapping the wheel on with one works well.
