single channel brushed ESC?
hi guys. i am looking to figure out a decent axe set up for an upcoming robot project and i need to know, what would be the best control board for an axe powered by a geared motor.

Fingertech tinyESCs and BotBitz are the two obvious options, but they're relatively crude for controlling an axe. The Wasp (or, if you can get hold of one, a now-discontinued Scorpion Mini) might be a better option, as it has inputs for limit switches, so you can hook up a pair of microswitches to turn the axe off at each end of its travel. That way, you don't need to be as careful with the switch or stick driving the axe (it should be possible with clever use of switches and resistors to replicate the behaviour with a big servo board, but I haven't the foggiest how)
Those are the solutions for antweights, at least - for bigger robots I have no idea but you'd want something a little heftier than a drive speed controller given the likely current spikes.

thanks joey. (: i wouldn't know where to start with switches and resistors and things so might change my design a bit. perhaps a grabber instead. i'm ditching wheels in favour of legs for this one so hopefully i can use the extra weight to make it relatively pinchy at least rather than just a grab and hold type weapon.

Fingertech is what I use on Baby Hell. A wasp is overkill (used it in my beetle).

A little late to this conversation, but I saw this in recently. Not tried it though :

Not a bad call; it's what I use for skutter's flipper. Here's an ebay version: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Useful-10A-Br ... Sw5ZBWPFm4
