A motor like one of these could be good: http://cdn.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... duct=26083. I'm looking at getting one to replace Why Wait?'s as the one it's currently got isn't very robust..

after some more thought, i'll think i'm going to give a verticle spinner a go as i have observed that they seem to be generally more effective. could people please post pictures of how they've mounted the motor vertically as that might give me a heading. thanks in advance.

as for the shufflebot mechanism i've come up with this... i know it'll probably be no good but i've heard people saying they'd like to see a resurgence in spinners and an increase in the number of walker entries. i agree with this and subsequently i am attempting to contribute to both. the walker that will be the new transit ant may not be the most effective robot on the block but it'll be a bit more interesting than my current 2WD roller pusher + hexbug clusterbot.

For Why Wait?'s motor support, I just cut out a bit of 1.5mm polycarb, folded it a bit, and then bolted it all to the chassis. Could probably do with being more around 2mm thick, but tbh very little design work went into Why Wait?, more made up as I was going along..

The hard part really is how to attach the blade to the motor. I used carefully folded polycab, but it was very tricky to get right. The best way to do it would be to get someone to 3D print the mount for you then just screw it all together.

What does Why Wait? weigh? Doesn't look particularly heavy. Or big!

It weighs ~120 grams, but most of that is in a large steel weight on the back to give it some more control... without that it's only 108g

thanks Rory. i think i'll do it your way with the motor mount and then i'll have to have a think about how i'm going to mount the blade to the motor. i'll use 2mm HDPE. that ought to be plenty strong enough. if i can make my spinner that light, i'll probably either encorporate my walker mechanism into the design or cluster it with my hexbug. i'm not sure how heavy the blade will be though. hopefully heavy so i can smash up stuff!

Hi all it's Vicki,

Thanks to everyone for helping Dan out with this new project, I will be over seeing this one, and will ensure Dan takes all necessary safety precautions, we already have a battle box suitable for testing ( adapting an upturned clear storage box). I'm sure i'm going to have a few more grey hairs before this one is finished!

we've ordered a six amp brushless ESC from hobbyking. would it be able to handle the motor Rory posted a link to on this thread without braking?

Depends on the make; Alex uses a 6A plush one on a ~10A motor and gets away with it... Also, on second glance that motor I posted the link to isn't ideal; it's actually quite a lot taller than I thought. http://cdn.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... duct=28166 on 2 cell should be better..

mum had a look at that one but according to the webpage it weighs 56 grams. is that right? i just thought it sounds a bit heavy for an individual component.
