a bit of an update on the walker project that may or may not also become a spinner.

i have perfected my mechanism on paper and here's what i've come up with...

my design is to screw the leg at one point to a pololu hub, i will then cut an oval hole in the front part of the leg. after that i will put a screw through the oval hole and into the chasis. then when the pololu hub rotates the leg will rotate around the screw and the oval hole will allow the leg to move forwards and backwards steadily held up by the screw creating a stepping motion. it's basically a 2WD version of that comerdy walker at AWS44 but with a sliding mechanism converting the wheel rotation into non rotational motion rather than a leg balanced between two wheels. i know it sounds like gibberish but i it'll be more simple to explain once it's built. here are some pictures of the design sketch i have drawn.

Looks good, Dan. You might want to put the slider in the centre (vertically) so that the mechanism is symmetrical - so that it works as well upside down as it does right way up :)

This linkage simulator might help to get the geometry right... http://linkage.software.informer.com/

thanks Gary, but to be honest it's not designed to be particularly effective. i just want to be in the group that can say they've built a walker! :)

after pulling the wires out of one of my motors i have given up on the walker mechanism and am therefore keeping the clusterbot however the hexbug will be removed and in it's place will sit a nanoweight roller.

had another go at the walker mechanism today and i've managed to get one working. here it is:

That looks fantastic! Looks like it would be pretty quick for a walker; with a wedge it should be very competitive! Also, try putting some grip of some kind (I like using rubber gloves and foam inside to give them a bit of bounce) on the leg and it will probably push everything due to the weight advantage.

could never get the mechanisms to stay straight in the end so that project got abandoned. i still have the mechanisms though.

here it is so far. it weighs 63 grams including nearly complete chasis, disc, disc mount, verticle motor mount, bolts, battery and shuffle mechanisms. i still need to cut the legs but that'll have to wait until i have the motor.

Hi guys, I got the drive components and spinner equipment for christmas and I got my uncle to solder all the wires for me. we got the motor running nicely but we havn't mounted it yet. how do we attach the disc mount to the motor, i'm guessing we remove the shaft somehow and then run the mount through the motor with the disc bolted to the other end. am I right or is it done differently? thanks :)

Thats how my mount works yeah. Assuming your motors shaft is 3mm.
