Team 13 - Antweight Build Thread

Post by limpet »

Thought it was time to start a thread to keep all my Ant Clank / Ant Ratchet bits in one place...

Here is the latest video of the flipper mechanism, two TGY90S servos now powered using Petes BEC.

Heres the circuit for the automatic pit lowering used on the Ant Freeze arena.
The relays are 12v car relays, switches are micro-switches from Maplins.
Activating the arena switch causes both relays to energise, B latches and keeps the power on until the limit switch is broken.

It stopped working eventually, but only due to a flat battery :o

Looking at it now it should be possible to get it down to one relay, putting the limit switch into the power of relay B, but this works anyway.

I got an UP Plus 3d printer a few weeks ago, now after a steep learning curve in both Sketchup and printing
here is `Ant Ratchet 3` chassis nearing completion :D

As you say there is a steep learning curve at first it is quit difficult to get instant results.
I was lucky in that I learned Sketchup first getting some chassis made by Shapeways and then the UP 3D later.
The biggest two problems I experienced was corners lifting on a chassis and difficulty in seperating large flat objects from the raft.
The first problem was solved by a more careful leveling of the table and the second stangely by reducing the resolution fro 0.15 mm to 0.2 mm.
Also you gradually learn the best ways to design thing so the print better.
I must admit as far a toys go mine was the best £1500 I ever spent.
I know if you are good enough you can probably design things in one go but the ability to develope a chassis and determine where it needs to be stronger or lighter is very useful and also great fun.

Getting there :)
I still get weird void surfaces and things, especially when working with angles and curves.

Looks really good. It'll be interesting to see how it performs vs. Hexa-Choppers drive once I've sorted out some good tyres.

Wheels, they have got lego tyres on them. Although if I could get some tracks to fit it would be nice to try them out.
